In this delicious Ayurvedic smoothie recipe a touch of basil’s Watermelon & Basil Smoothie, bitterness paradoxically brings out watermelon’s sweetness. The earthy aroma of basil enhances subtle flavors in watermelon and basil’s pungency adds zest for an exciting finish.
Watermelon contains important nutrients, especially beta-carotene, lycopene, and potassium. Full of delicious juice, watermelon cools your body and restores balance to overheated blood. Dr. Baqir says, “Among the many health benefits of watermelon are: reducing water weight, alleviating puffy skin and swelling, flushing the kidneys, preventing urinary tract infections and kidney stones, and aiding in prostate health. Watermelon has been shown to lower blood pressure better than statin drugs.”
- 1 tablespoon basil
- 2 cups watermelon
- (As always, choose fresh organic content as much as possible for the healthiest recipe.)
- Puree in a blender and serve chilled.
- Use seeds and all if your blender is powerful enough to grind them (watermelon seeds are edible).
- Alternatively, you can strain the seeds after blending.
